F Posterity was a series of new demos published weekly for a full year, with every fifth song being a cover. As Rob’s creative energy focused more on Analog Jetpack in 2006, he sat on a backlog of material that wasn’t quite right for the band. In addition, he continued to work out arrangements of popular songs with rare opportunities to play them out. The concept was to forget waiting for the perfect opportunity to record a track with a pristine studio treatment. Instead, he recorded simple demos each week, starting mostly acoustic and moving towards more complete, overdubbed compositions, publishing every Wednesday on MySpace. After 52 weeks, Rob concluded with a title track, “F Posterity”, unlike much else he’d written. Perhaps it was appropriate, as the style of that track owed a debt of inspiration to Dave Van Ronk’s infrequent songwriting — and a cover of Van Ronk’s “Sunday Street” kicked off a the project.
Also covered: Steely Dan, Beck, The Beach Boys, Radiohead, Gnarls Barkley, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Cypress Hill and the Postal Service. Mixed with demos of everything from piano blues to New Orleans jazz, guitar rags, harmonica stomps and modern rock, F Posterity was a spastic 52 weeks of creative expression.
